New exhibition at Olympia launches to help brand owners fight the large and growing problem of counterfeiting.
Counterfeiting has increased massively over the past few years, in part driven by the growth of the internet and the rise of far-Eastern manufacturing. EU seizures of counterfeit goods more than doubled last year - BBC News 9th July. Historically counterfeiting only affected the largest and most expensive brands, but today it can be a problem for almost any brand. Products most at risk of being counterfeited include medicines and consumer products. Simultaneously, brands are facing new threats online from fake websites, cybersquatters, traffic diversion and a huge range of other online scams.
A new exhibition at Olympia aims to help brand owners and their advisers find solutions to this growing problem. The show features around sixty exhibitors showcasing everything from security inks, holograms, track and trace technology to sophisticated internet monitoring tools as well as 35 seminars featuring case studies from brand owners as diverse as Ford, HP and Monsoon / Accessorize as well as independent consultants and experts including Trading Standards.
The show runs in partnership with leading organisations in the field including the Anti-Counterfeiting Group, the International Chamber of Commerce and ICANN, the body that controls internet domain names.
The Brand Protection Show runs from 16-17 September 2009 at Olympia and offers free admission to visitors who pre-register at www.brandprotectionshow.com. Visitors will include senior managers as well as legal, marketing, packaging, IT and security professionals.
